hz

Cycles per second

Hz is the standard abbreviation for hertz, the unit of frequency measuring cycles per second.

A 60 Hz electrical system completes sixty cycles per second; a 440 Hz tone is the standard A note used for tuning instruments.

In computing, processor speeds are measured in gigahertz (GHz).

Often lowercase in casual use: My monitor runs at 144hz.
