interplanting
Growing crops together
Interplanting is growing two or more crops together in the same space, typically to maximize yield, improve soil health, or provide mutual benefits.
A classic example is the "three sisters" method—corn, beans, and squash planted together, where corn provides a climbing structure for beans, beans fix nitrogen, and squash shades out weeds.
We interplanted lettuce between the tomato rows to make use of the shade.
