animalization

Reducing to beasts

Animalization is the process of reducing humans to the status of animals—stripping away dignity, rights, or individuality.

Propaganda often employs animalization to dehumanize enemies: The regime's animalization of refugees made atrocities easier to justify.

The term also describes portraying human characters with animal traits in art or literature, or the biological process of making something more animal-like.
