house cricket
Domestic singing insect
A house cricket is a small yellowish-brown cricket that commonly inhabits human dwellings, attracted by warmth and food scraps.
Native to Asia, it has spread worldwide and is the species most often heard chirping indoors at night.
House crickets are also raised commercially as pet food and, increasingly, as protein for human consumption.
