froghopper

Foam-nest tiny jumper

A froghopper is a small jumping insect that feeds on plant sap.

The adults can leap great distances relative to their size—hence the name.

Their nymphs produce the frothy white masses called spittlebugs or cuckoo spit found on plant stems in spring and summer.

Froghoppers rarely cause serious damage to plants.
