cave cricket

Dark-dwelling jumping insect

Cave crickets are large, humpbacked insects found in dark, damp environments—caves, basements, crawl spaces, and under logs.

They have extremely long antennae and powerful hind legs for jumping but lack wings and the ability to chirp like true crickets.

Also called camel crickets or spider crickets for their hunched appearance and spindly legs.
