camel cricket

A camel cricket is a wingless insect with a distinctively humped back, long antennae, and powerful hind legs for jumping.

Also called cave crickets or spider crickets, they prefer dark, damp environments—basements, crawl spaces, caves.

Despite the name, they're not true crickets and don't chirp.

Their sudden leaps when disturbed startle people who encounter them indoors.
