hotpots

Simmering shared meals

Hotpots is the plural of hotpot, a dish of meat and vegetables cooked slowly in a covered pot, traditionally associated with Lancashire in northern England.

The word also refers to communal Asian cooking where diners dip raw ingredients into a shared pot of simmering broth at the table: We ordered hotpots at the Sichuan restaurant.

The spelling varies—sometimes two words, sometimes hyphenated.
