triage area
Priority assessment space
A triage area is a designated space where patients are quickly assessed and sorted by the urgency of their condition.
In emergency rooms, the triage area is where nurses evaluate incoming patients to determine who needs immediate care and who can wait: The gunshot victim was rushed past the triage area straight to surgery.
The term extends to disaster sites, battlefields, or any situation requiring rapid prioritization of casualties.
