hot cross bun

Spiced Lenten treat

A hot cross bun is a sweet, spiced roll studded with currants or raisins, marked with a cross on top.

Traditionally eaten on Good Friday, the cross representing Christ's crucifixion.

Now sold throughout the Easter season and increasingly year-round: The bakery started stocking hot cross buns in February.
