Bakewell tart
Frangipane-filled British pastry
A Bakewell tart is an English pastry with a shortcrust base, a layer of jam (traditionally raspberry), and a filling of frangipane—an almond-flavored sponge.
The top is sometimes finished with flaked almonds or icing.
Named after Bakewell, a town in Derbyshire where it originated.
Often confused with the simpler Bakewell pudding, which has a puff pastry base and custard-like filling.
