hitboxes

Invisible collision boundaries

Hitboxes is the plural of hitbox, an invisible boundary in video games that determines when objects collide or register contact.

A character's hitbox defines where they can be struck; a weapon's hitbox defines where it deals damage.

Players discuss hitboxes when attacks connect unexpectedly or miss when they shouldn't: The hitboxes in this game are broken—I clearly dodged that.
