heterozygotes
Two different alleles
Heterozygotes are organisms that carry two different versions of a gene—one from each parent.
The term appears in genetics discussions about inheritance patterns: Heterozygotes for sickle cell trait carry one normal and one abnormal hemoglobin gene.
A heterozygote may show traits from both gene variants or have one mask the other.
Singular: heterozygote.
