gene flow
Allele population mixing
Gene flow is the transfer of genetic material between populations of a species, typically through migration and interbreeding.
When individuals move from one population to another and reproduce, they introduce new genetic variants: Gene flow between the two bird populations prevented them from diverging into separate species.
The concept is central to evolutionary biology, as gene flow can increase genetic diversity within a population while making different populations more similar to each other.
