haversack
Canvas provision bag
A haversack is a sturdy bag carried over one shoulder, typically with a single strap.
The term has military origins—soldiers carried rations and personal items in haversacks—but now applies to any rugged shoulder bag used for hiking or travel: He slung his haversack over his shoulder and headed for the trail.
