harems

Guarded women's quarters

Harems is the plural of harem, which originally meant the private quarters of a household where women lived, secluded from male visitors—a practice associated with some Muslim and Middle Eastern cultures.

The word extends to any group of women associated with one man: He arrived with his harem of groupies.

In biology, a harem is a group of females mating exclusively with one male.
