half rhymes
Imperfect sound echoes
Half rhymes are words that share similar but not identical sounds, usually matching consonants but not vowels: *slant* and *sent*, *shape* and *keep*, *moon* and *mine*.
Also called slant rhymes or near rhymes.
Poets use half rhymes for subtler effects than perfect rhymes provide—suggesting connection without the neat closure of *moon* and *June*.
