gun port
Ship's firing hole
A gun port is an opening in the side of a ship or fortification through which a cannon or other weapon can be fired.
On warships, gun ports were fitted with hinged covers that could be closed to keep out water during rough seas: The crew opened the gun ports and ran out the guns.
