defensive wall
Fortification against attackers
A defensive wall is a fortification built to protect a city, territory, or military position from attack.
Such walls have been central to warfare and urban planning throughout history: the defensive walls of Constantinople, Hadrian's Wall.
The term also applies figuratively to any barrier meant to protect against threats: The company built a defensive wall of patents around its technology.
