breastwork
Low defensive wall
A breastwork is a temporary defensive fortification, typically chest-high, thrown up quickly to protect soldiers from enemy fire.
The term comes from the structure reaching breast height—enough to shield the torso while allowing troops to fire over the top: The regiment hastily constructed breastworks from logs and earth.
