gullies

Small steep valleys

Gullies are channels or trenches carved into earth by running water, larger than rills but smaller than ravines.

Erosion creates gullies on hillsides and in fields: Heavy rains cut deep gullies across the farmland.

The word also refers to gutters or drainage channels, and in cricket, the fielding position between point and slips.
