corkage fee
Bottle-opening surcharge
A corkage fee is what a restaurant charges when diners bring their own wine rather than ordering from the house selection.
The fee covers the service of opening and pouring the bottle: The corkage fee was thirty dollars, but we saved money bringing our own vintage.
Some restaurants waive corkage if you also purchase a bottle from their list.
