golden domes
Shining rounded rooftops
Golden domes are the distinctive gilded cupolas that crown Orthodox churches, mosques, and government buildings—most iconically the onion-shaped domes of Russian cathedrals or the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem.
The phrase also refers informally to the University of Notre Dame, whose main building features a golden dome topped by a statue of the Virgin Mary: Notre Dame's golden dome is visible for miles.
