Saint Basil
Eastern Church father
Saint Basil refers to Basil of Caesarea (330–379 CE), a Greek bishop and theologian who shaped early Christian monasticism and doctrine.
He is venerated as a saint in Eastern Orthodox, Catholic, and other Christian traditions.
Saint Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, with its distinctive colorful onion domes, is named for a different figure—Basil the Blessed, a holy fool.
The name appears in churches, schools, and institutions throughout the Christian world.
