godwits

Migratory sandpiper relatives

Godwits are large shorebirds with long legs and long, slightly upturned bills, found on mudflats and coastal wetlands worldwide.

They probe deep into sand and mud for invertebrates.

Four species exist, including the bar-tailed godwit, which undertakes one of the longest nonstop migrations of any bird—over 7,000 miles across the Pacific.
