gluteal muscles
Hip extensor group
The gluteal muscles are the three muscles forming the buttocks: the gluteus maximus, medius, and minimus.
They extend and rotate the hip, stabilize the pelvis, and power movements like walking, running, and climbing stairs.
In fitness contexts, often shortened to glutes: My glutes are sore from yesterday's squats.
