ghost pepper

Terrifyingly hot chili

Ghost pepper is an extremely hot chili pepper, one of the hottest in the world.

Originally from northeastern India, it ranks over one million Scoville heat units—hundreds of times hotter than a jalapeño.

The name translates from Bhut jolokia, where bhut means ghost.

Used in hot sauces, spicy food challenges, and as a test of culinary bravado: I tried a ghost pepper wing and immediately regretted it.
