seed dispersal
Plant offspring spreading
Seed dispersal is the movement of seeds away from the parent plant.
Plants have evolved various mechanisms—wind carries dandelion fluff, birds eat berries and deposit seeds elsewhere, burrs hitch rides on animal fur, pods explode to scatter their contents.
The process reduces competition between parent and offspring and allows plants to colonize new territory.
