genderswapping

Changing character's sex

Genderswapping is reimagining a character, person, or role with a different gender than the original.

The term appears most often in fan fiction, fan art, and media adaptations: a genderswapped version of Sherlock Holmes, The show genderswapped the villain.

Also called genderbending or rule 63 (from internet culture).

The practice explores how gender shapes character and narrative.
