Ratio-changing mechanism enclosure
A gear box is a metal casing containing a set of gears that transmits power from an engine to wheels or other machinery.
In vehicles, the gear box allows the driver to change gears, adjusting the ratio between engine speed and wheel speed: The clutch connects the engine to the gear box.
