doffer

One who removes

A doffer is a worker, historically often a child, who removes full bobbins or spindles from textile machinery and replaces them with empty ones.

The term comes from "doff," meaning to remove.

In machinery, a doffer is also a cylinder or roller that strips fiber from a carding machine: The doffer transfers the carded cotton to the next stage.
