sliding puzzle
Rearrangeable square grid
A sliding puzzle is a mechanical or digital puzzle consisting of numbered or pictured tiles arranged in a frame with one empty space, allowing pieces to be slid into new positions.
The goal is typically to arrange the tiles in numerical or pictorial order: I finally solved that sliding puzzle after twenty minutes.
The classic fifteen puzzle—a 4×4 grid with tiles numbered 1–15—is the most familiar form.
