funerary mask
Burial face covering
A funerary mask is a mask placed over the face of a deceased person for burial.
These masks, made from materials like gold, bronze, or clay, were meant to protect the dead, preserve their likeness, or prepare them for the afterlife.
The golden mask of Tutankhamun is the most famous example.
The tomb contained a funerary mask of hammered copper.
