frontier fort
Wilderness military post
A frontier fort is a military outpost established at the edge of settled territory, typically to defend against hostile forces and protect expanding settlements.
In American history, frontier forts housed soldiers who fought in wars against Native Americans and served as centers of frontier life: The wagon train stopped at the frontier fort for supplies and protection.
