framing squares
Right-angle measuring tool
A framing square is an L-shaped metal tool used in carpentry, with a longer arm (the blade) and a shorter arm (the tongue) meeting at a right angle.
Carpenters use it to mark and verify square cuts, lay out rafters and stairs, and calculate angles.
The scales and tables stamped into its surface help compute measurements for roof pitches and stair stringers: He checked the corner with his framing square.
