foot rot

Ovine interdigital infection

Foot rot is a bacterial infection causing decay of the hooves and surrounding tissue in livestock, especially sheep and cattle.

The condition produces lameness, foul odor, and tissue breakdown between the toes.

Left untreated, it spreads through a herd and can cripple animals: We lost three ewes to foot rot before we caught it.
