foot-pound-second
Imperial measurement system
Foot-pound-second describes a system of measurement units based on the foot for length, the pound for mass or force, and the second for time.
Often abbreviated FPS, this system was widely used in engineering and physics before the metric system became the international standard.
It contrasts with the metric CGS (centimeter-gram-second) and SI (meter-kilogram-second) systems.
The foot-pound-second system remains common in some American engineering contexts.
