follies

Decorative garden structures

Follies is the plural of folly—acts of foolishness or costly mistakes: the follies of youth, the follies of war.

Follies also names a type of theatrical revue featuring elaborate costumes, music, and comedy sketches, popularized in the early twentieth century: the Ziegfeld Follies.

In architecture, follies are ornamental buildings serving no practical purpose, built for decoration or whimsy in gardens and estates.
