fire curtain
Theater safety partition
A fire curtain is a heavy, fire-resistant barrier that can be lowered to separate a theater stage from the audience in case of fire.
Also called a safety curtain or iron curtain, it prevents flames and smoke from spreading into the auditorium: The fire curtain dropped automatically when the alarm triggered.
The term extends to similar protective barriers in other buildings.
