fin rot

Fish tail decay

Fin rot is a bacterial or fungal infection in fish that causes the fins to deteriorate, appearing ragged, discolored, or frayed at the edges.

Common in aquarium fish, it typically results from poor water quality or stress: The betta's fins showed early signs of fin rot.

Left untreated, the disease progressively destroys fin tissue and can spread to the body.
