4D ultrasound
Live fetal imaging
4D ultrasound is medical imaging that adds real-time motion to three-dimensional ultrasound, allowing viewers to see a fetus moving, yawning, or sucking its thumb in the womb.
The "fourth dimension" is time—the image updates continuously rather than capturing a single frozen moment.
While standard 2D ultrasound produces flat cross-sectional images, 4D creates a live video effect that many expectant parents find emotionally compelling.
We watched the baby stretch during the 4D ultrasound.
