fax machines
Phone line printers
Fax machines are devices that transmit documents over telephone lines by scanning pages and converting them into signals that a receiving machine reassembles into a copy.
Once ubiquitous in offices, they became the standard for sending contracts, forms, and official documents before email attachments largely replaced them.
Despite their dated technology, fax machines persist in healthcare, legal, and government settings where they're considered more secure or where regulations haven't caught up with digital alternatives.
The doctor's office still requires you to fax your records.
