fatwood

Pine's flammable heartwood

Fatwood is kindling made from the resinous heartwood of pine trees, especially from stumps where sap has concentrated after the tree dies.

The high resin content makes it catch fire easily and burn hot, prized for starting campfires and woodstoves: A few sticks of fatwood will get any fire going.

Also called lighter wood or fat lighter.
