faller

Person who drops

A faller is someone or something that falls.

In logging, a faller is specifically the worker who cuts down trees—the one who makes them fall: The faller notched the trunk and stepped back as the pine came down.

The term also appears in industrial contexts for any mechanism designed to drop or release.
