sawlog

Future lumber source

A sawlog is a log large enough and straight enough to be sawed into lumber at a mill.

The term distinguishes merchantable timber from smaller logs suitable only for pulpwood, firewood, or chips.

Sawlogs must meet minimum diameter and length requirements, which vary by region and market: We got three sawlogs out of that oak.
