fads
Brief cultural obsessions
Fads are passing enthusiasms—trends that catch on quickly and fade just as fast.
Pet rocks, fidget spinners, dance crazes: each dominated briefly, then vanished.
The word carries a dismissive edge, implying the interest is shallow or fleeting: Is this a genuine movement or just another fad?
Fad diets promise quick results but rarely last.
