extermination camp
Systematic murder facility
An extermination camp is a facility designed specifically for mass killing.
The term refers primarily to Nazi death camps during World War II—Auschwitz, Treblinka, Sobibor—where millions of Jews and others were systematically murdered, most in gas chambers.
Distinguished from concentration camps, which were primarily for detention and forced labor, extermination camps existed for the explicit purpose of genocide.
