tall-tale

Wildly embellished story

A tall tale is an exaggerated or outlandish story, often presented as if true despite being obviously fanciful.

The genre features impossible feats and larger-than-life characters: Paul Bunyan stories are classic American tall tales.

As a modifier, tall-tale describes anything characterized by wild exaggeration: his tall-tale account of the fishing trip.
