whopper
Outrageous tall tale
A whopper is something unusually large or impressive of its kind: That fish was a whopper.
More commonly, a whopper is an outrageous lie—a falsehood so bold it stands out: He told some real whoppers about his military service.
The word carries informal, slightly playful connotations in both senses. (Capitalized Whopper is the Burger King sandwich.)
