nucleoid
Prokaryotic DNA region
A nucleoid is the region within a bacterial cell where the genetic material is concentrated.
Unlike the nucleus of more complex cells, the nucleoid has no surrounding membrane—the DNA simply occupies an irregular zone in the cell's interior.
The nucleoid contains the bacterium's single circular chromosome.
